“This little light of mine…I’m gonna let it shine…”
The message of this catchy little song for kids is POWERFUL! I mean, when you really think about the words, shouldn’t this be the goal? Just letting our light shine?!
Ever felt left out, that you don’t matter, or that you’re not good enough?
Or maybe that others don’t really see you. The real you. The you with unique qualities and special gifts, talents, feelings and perspectives that make you who you are.
Maybe you feel a little odd, like you don’t fit in, or could it be that regrets and mistakes from your past come back to haunt you?
Perhaps you don’t feel pretty enough, or smart enough, or talented enough.
GOD says that you ARE enough.
No matter what anyone else, including YOU thinks!
YOU ARE ENOUGH!
As a child of God, you are loved. You are chosen. You are enough. So, let your light shine!
Matthew 5:16 says: In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Remember Leah from the Old Testament? She was Jacob’s first wife, but his second choice.
Jacob’s heart was captivated by Leah’s beautiful sister, Rachel. Jacob loved Rachel with all his heart, but his father-in-law tricked him into marrying Leah instead.
He ended up marrying Rachel too, and the stage was set for some pretty tricky family dynamics.
Leah had his babies. But Rachel still had his heart. One son, then two, and three…with each birth Leah hoped that her husband would come to love her. It didn’t happen. But God didn’t leave her hanging.
